Blog Post Local Neighbors Help Keep Murrieta Foreclosures Clean

Category: Real Estate Trends

Published: Friday, September 12, 2008

A dedicated group of local neighbors is helping keep the nearly 3,000 Murrieta bank owned homes in the City from being overrun with weeds, trash and debris, demonstrating both community spirit and pride in their neighborhoods. What started as a wistful lament about the dying lawns, overgrown shrubs and piles of junk has turned into a full scale community effort involving neighbors, volunteers and even a long-serving City councilman.

The program is called the Community Cares Clean-Up Project, led by volunteer Barbara Nugent. Tired of seeing the neglect and decay of foreclosed homes throughout her neighborhood, Nugent and the rest of this enthusiastic group of ordinary citizens are working directly with lenders and the City to identify Murrieta bank homes in need of a little tender loving care. Volunteers clear weeds, mow the lawn, trim shrubs, clean trash and haul away the junk and debris.

Keeping the weeds at bay is the first step in creating "curb appeal" that will help attract buyers. Community based initiatives like the Community Cares Clean-Up Project make it easier for potential buyers to see the beauty of the foreclosed home, which can often end up buried under overgrown hedges and tall weeds. That was all one city official needed to hear before he joined the group. Four-term Councilman Warnie Enochs "adopted" a Historic Downtown Murrieta home and spent all day clearing trash and cutting the grass. Like the rest of the Community Cares Clean-Up Project, his goal is to keep their neighborhoods looking as respectable as they can, despite an almost weekly increase in the number of foreclosures.

Their efforts appear to be working. Even with its large number of foreclosures on the market, Murrieta remains one of the most highly sought-after communities in the region by foreclosure bargain hunters. Oak Tree Realty Group has a complete listing of Murrieta bank owned homes available and can help you find your dream home.
